Accommodation options

Here you will find details of our own gîte accommodation, and that of all our accommodation partners with whom we work with to provide our range of packages and destinations. We do not act as booking agents, however, we are more than happy to put you in touch with the proprietors should you wish to stay with any of them instead of booking one of our packages.

Wherever you see "gîte based" on any of the indivual details page of our walking or activity holidays, then it means that you have the option of taking self catered accommodation as part of the package at our gîte here at Berthemont les Bains.

Or, if you're not taking part in a standard package, the accommodation is available stand alone, throughout the year.

It offers an excellent resting place, with a south facing terrace for your breakfast or “sundowner”.

The gîte, (Gîtes de France – rated 2 Epis) can sleep up to 4/5 people, with self catering facilities. It is fully equipped, including washing machine and dish washer. Sheets and towels are provided so all you need to bring are a few CDs.

We are also able to offer another ensuite room for 2, which can be used in addition to the gite or on its own for bed & breakfast.

The house sits in 6 acres, is an excellent starting point for local walks, with an ample amount of bird and wildlife to keep the amateur naturalist content, and a stone’s throw from Berthemont’s own thermal baths.

Mel (who is a mountain leader) and I, Liz, are on site to offer advice on whatever level/type of activity you want to get in to, or take you out on guided walks. Within walking distance, organic produce is easily available; and 5 kilometres away is Roquebillière with shops, bars and restaurants.

La Zourcière

Gîte at Sainte-Agnès

For many of our South East France coastal trips, on foot and on horseback, we work with Denis Longfellow and the Hôtel St Yves below.

Overlooking the Mediterranean coast at Menton, our partner Denis' winter residence sits just below Europe's highest coastal hanging village.

From here, Denis runs horse riding outings through from September to the end of May, before he takes his animals on the annual transhumance to his summer alpine base at Le Boréon high in the Mercantour.

The property consists of the house, an annexe which has one bedroom with a separate bathroom. It can sleep up to 10 people - ideal for large groups and families.

The setting is absolutely magnificent, and is ideally based for exploring both the coast between Monaco and the Italian border, and the beautiful hinterland rising from the coast and into the Alpes Maritimes.

Pricing is €1050 per week, plus a breakage deposit of €200.

Le Grand Chalet

For our catered options here in the Alpes Maritimes, we work very closely with Luc and Christine at their chambre d'hôte in Valdeblore.

Luc and Christine have several B & B rooms in a beautifully located chalet overlooking the village of St Dalmas Valdeblore in the Tinée Valley. There’s also an open fire in the living room plus a sauna for a treat on winter nights.
Christine prepares sumptuous dinners made from local produce - these are a must, and you'll be sure of a warm and friendly welcome from this charming couple.
To see more detail of this beatiful location you can visit their own web site.

Hôtel Saint Yves

We are happy to use the cosy Saint Yves on either the first or last night of the Transhumance. It is also a great place to stay for some R&R (Frédéric's shop selling beautiful glass is worth a look in its own right). The village of Sainte Agnès is the highest coastal perched village in Europe, and offers a gorgeous view down to the Med at Menton.
