The Kingdom of Morocco is the most westerly of the North African countries known as the Maghreb.
It is ideally situated for trade with both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, with a barren mountainous interior.
The country remained independent for centuries while developing a rich culture blended from African, Arab, Berber and then European influences.
It is the cities of Tangier, Casablanca and Marrakesh which conjure up images of haggling in colourful markets, staying in luxury riads and sampling the excellent food.
However the country is vast and, including the Western Sahara region, covers over 700000 square kilometres - an excellent outdoor playground - for walking, biking, horse riding and even skiing!!
Spacebetween currently offer an unusual route up to Mount Toubkal, starting out from Marrakesh, from where you can see your destination in the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains.
