Our Holiday Accommodation

Mercantour - Berthemont les Bains holiday apartments

We are very pleased to offer holiday accommodation in our comfortable home in Berthemont les Bains.

The house offers two independent gîtes which may be used for accommodation only, or as a base for our self-guided holidays.

Accommodation only

Details of the accommodation can be seen here. The gîtes can also be hired together. In the summer we also erect a family size tent for "glamping" on our land - complete with mattresses and duvets.

Accommodation for self guided holidays

Accommodation

We can comfortably accommodate a group of six/eight people with some sharing of bathrooms for small groups. It is usual, however, for self guided guests to be two people together.

Food

Catering is on a full board basis. We supply goodies for guests to make their own breakfasts and then dash round the house with hot pastries. A picnic lunch is provided and mulled wine in the winter season. For dinners - we eat together two or three nights a week.

For the other nights - ready to eat tasty food is delivered to your door. Dinners include nibbles, starter, main and dessert, and beer and wine.

We make every effort to ensure that we understand your dietary needs, and meals are prepared with this in mind. All food is home made, and the ingredients are sourced locally and organically where possible.

The cuisine is eclectic and varied.

Transport

Many guests arrive from mainland Europe in their own vehicles.

Should you be arriving in Nice by air or train, it is easy to hire a car at the airport or railway station.

We naturally supply directions for the hour long trip to Berthemont.

For any guests driving down from the UK or Northern Europe we are happy to suggest route planning.

What you'll need – self guided holidays

The Mercantour may be hundreds of miles south of the UK but the accommodation is based in the mountains so days and evenings can turn cool even in mid summer.

Insurance

Please read our terms and conditions on the reverse side of the booking form.

Even if you're not partaking in any activities and just booking our gite for accommodation, we require that you take out adequate travel insurance that includes medical expenses, loss or damage of personal property, damage to third party property, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment.

European citizens travelling within the EEA are entitled to a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which simplifies the procedure when receiving medical assistance during their stay in a member state. The EHIC entitles the holder to the same treatment at the same cost as a national of that country, and presentation of the EHIC guarantees reimbursement of the medical costs on the spot, or soon after returning home. In the event of treatment being required, present the card at the earliest opportunity. The card is only valid for state provided services, not for private hospital and treatments. Other services such as mountain rescue are not covered by the EHIC and may not be free. Therefore, it is a pre-requisite of all our activity holidays that each guest takes out a travel insurance policy for the entire duration of the tour. This must include at least medical expenses, loss or damage of personal property, damage to third party property, rescue, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment. You must ensure that there are no exclusion clauses which limit your cover for the type of activities included in your tour. We can require you to show proof of this cover as part of the booking procedure and/or when you arrive and reserve the right to limit some activities if we feel that your cover is inadequate.

As of December 2020, the above paragraph will not apply to British citizens and therefore it is a pre-requisite of all our activity holidays that each guest takes out a travel insurance policy for the entire duration of the tour.

Precautions

Walking Holidays

By their very nature walking holidays possess an element of danger. The mountain environment can, at times, be unpredictable. However, no matter how professional or experienced we and our trusted guides may be, they cannot predict unavoidable events, which may present hitherto unforeseen elements of risk.

You should not partake in any activity if you feel at all uncomfortable.

Medical

Our self guided holidays require a degree of fitness.

You may have medical conditions, which may inhibit your activities in the hills, or indeed hamper your general level of aerobic fitness e.g. mild forms of diabetes. We require that we be made fully aware of such conditions upon booking. There is a section at the base of the first page of the booking form to cover this. The decision to partake in one of our trips must be yours alone. If you have any doubts please consult your doctor.

If you do have a condition that could inhibit your ability to partake fully in any of the days' activities, then for your own enjoyment and that of other guests, we do require that we be made fully aware of any such conditions prior to booking, so that we can discuss it with you. Our aim is not to preclude any potential guest from partaking, but to be able to assess, and therefore suggest the best options available. There may be times of course, where we advise that these kinds of holidays are simply not appropriate.

Also, if you are carrying an injury, or have an illness that curtails your ability, then you must inform us, so that we can discuss it with you. Any information that you provide us with will be treated in strictest confidence.

We do our very best to accommodate all our guests' abilities, but clients do need to bear in mind that if they fail to inform us of any problems that they may have, which may seriously curtail the enjoyment of others, then we do reserve the right to exclude those guests from the days out, without any recompense. Our contract with you details this also.
