Winter Holidays in France

At the very mention of winter holidays in the snow, the majority of people are entranced with the idea of romantic walks, or swooshing around on skiis in a winter wonderland, and then arriving back at base to the welcome of a roaring fire and a hot toddy. The reality, as we all know, soon becomes slush and log jammed traffic in the UK.

Spacebetween are keen to offer an alternative approach offering people the chance of continuing their love of walking and hiking, but throughout the year. Snow shoes, perfect for distributing your weight over a larger area and therefore preventing sinking into the snow, have come a long way from early days when a wood frame was laced with rawhide by trappers.

Today's snowshoes are hi-tech and perfect for getting out and off piste - in silence. No particular skills are required - the art of snow shoeing can be picked up in a very short space of time. We therefore offer snow shoeing breaks, starting during Christmas and the New Year, running through to the end of March. The Nature is stunning, and the snow offers ample opportunity to investigate the tracks of animals and birds. The Alpha wolf park in Le Boréon is also stunning in the winter.

In addition, we propose a mixed week of snow activity, which consists of snowshoeing, ice climbing, downhill skiing and a winter summit attempt. A perfect combination of activity for the energetic. Cross country skiing is also available.

Despite the short snow season there is snow above about 2000m until the early summer allowing snow addicts to get their fill until late on in the year. Spacebetween do not currently offer snow shoeing in Gran Paradiso but we are always open to ideas!!
