What to do....

Mel and I have lived here for 17 years – so we are thrilled to be your first port of call for your enjoyment here – so you need not waste a moment of your precious time.

Please browse our information below and these useful sites.

If you are not from the Alpes-Maritimes we are of course happy to share some of our favourite places, on the coast, the Côte d’Azur is a happening place, all year long. We also have some great gems in the Var, Provence and Italy.

Guests can relax in the 6 acres of land surrounding the house – enjoying the company of the 2 cats and horses. There's tables and chairs and sun loungers for guests' use, and lots of birds to watch.
In Berthemont, there is the only thermal spa facility in the Alpes-Maritimes – where guests can enjoy an afternoon or sign up for a “remise en forme” for several days – from €18 for half a day.

Guided day walks with an international mountain leader (AMM) Mel €30 per person – including a picnic – minimum 6 people.
A huge range of walks are available for independent walkers, from Alpine scenery down to Mediterranean terrain – and along the GR routes which traverse the department.
There is also the new and exciting Grande Traversée du Mercantour.
There are guide books in the gîtes, plus your hosts are available to advise you on your best options.
For the very keen there are trail running circuits – as well as numerous trail races throughout the year.
It is also possible to hire a mountain guide for the day to tackle serious goals.
Guests may do over night stays in the refuges in the area – cost about €50 per night.
The walking experience is also enriched by history and culture – the Salt Route, the Magninot Line, Templar activity, as well as abundant flora and fauna.
The Vallée des Merveilles is a wonderful side trip for a couple of days – access via either the Vésubie valley (Gordalasque) or from the Roya valley.

Alternatively, why not trial wall climbing inside at the Vesubia Mountain Park – which also offers canyoning and a pool – see below.
Via Ferrata is available in Valdeblore, Lantosque and La Colmiane and further afield in La Brigue – kit is available for hire in La Colmiane.
